Organ Mountains are in the background.
Management Department, are added every few years
to provide micro-nutrients and iron. I renew my beds
every four to five years. I do overhead watering which
helps wash out the salts of the bio-solids. A drip system
does not work as well, since the soil drains so fast that
the water doesn’t spread out horizontally. I water once
a week except for the pluses. I plant all Arilbreds in the
ground except for the pluses. I put the pluses and pure
Arils in raised beds. I am planning on starting a business
creating garden art once I retire. Many of my upcycled
glass pieces were on display throughout the garden. I
found that the art adds color in the winter.
It was stressed that though Arils can be hard to
grow, Arilbreds are growing throughout the United
States. 'Heart Of Hearts' (Paul Black 2015, AB) (OGB-)
did very well in Des Moines, Iowa. It was suggested

 There is nothing
 doth inspire us,
 Like the beauty
 of an Iris.
that people start with the “minuses” (less than half Aril
content) and work their way up to the “pluses” (more
than half Aril content). Then go for the big challenge:
growing pure Arils. Along the way, make some crosses.
Remember, if Howie can win Best in Show for a swamp
iris growing in the desert, you can create the conditions
needed to grow an iris that is part desert iris. Just
 create the right conditions.
Many IBs like ‘I’m Wicked’ (Barry Blyth 2013/2014)
and early blooming TBs were in full bloom. Las Cruces
will host the 101st anniversary national convention in
2021. It looks like it will be a great event. Plan to come.
 Don’t forget your sunscreen.
