for three years at the competition garden to be
assessed by an international panel of iris judges.
 The Society would especially encourage
hybridizers to send Border Bearded varieties.
Many gardens are now smaller, and this gives wider
 coverage to BBs.
There are certain rules for paperwork to
accompany the rhizomes, since they will be judged
blind (i.e.: there will only be an assigned number
when the plants are judged; the judges will receive
no information about hybridizer or name of variety).
 Please contact segreteria@irisfirenze.com for
complete rules on submission. A detailed color
description and photo are also required.
Rhizomes shipped from outside of Europe must
have undergone a phytosanitary inspection. In
addition, three special labels (available from the
e-mail address shown above) must be placed on
the outside of the package to expedite through
 customs.
Plants must arrive during the month of
 September.
Anne Barbetti would also like to mention that
the competition garden can be visited all year long
by appointment. Otherwise it is open to the public
from April 25 through May 20; the competition
judging takes place during this period.
AN INVITATION FROM VOLKER KLEHM &
 THE GERMAN IRIS SOCIETY
Volker Klehm writes that the Iris Group of
the German Perennial Society is looking forward
to receiving entries for their International
Competition. They will be judging both TBs and
SDBs, and hybridizers are invited to send two
rhizomes each of no more than five varieties of
TB, and the same for SDBs. Special forms must
accompany the rhizomes; these can be obtained
 from volker.klehm@yahoo.de. Of course, all
international shipments must also be accompanied
 by an appropriate phytosanitary inspection
certificate. Shipments should arrive during the
month of August, sent to the following address:
