 COVERAGE
Live oak trees and Spanish moss that survived Hurricaine Katrina This NOID is typical of the unnamed Louisiana
‘When Pigs Fly’ (Patrick O’Connor 2013, LA) ‘Plum Good’ (Ira Nelson 1951, LA)
 THE NEW ORLEANS CITY PARK
The magnificent Live Oak trees survived Hurricane
Katrina and continue to thrive here. The Louisiana
Iris Rainbow Festival is held here each year with
the Louisiana irises maintained by the Greater New
Orleans Iris Society (GNOIS). They have done a terrific
job in garden recovery. Unfortunately contractors
working along the lagoon edge forced movement of
many of the guest irises just prior to the convention,
irises in the New Orleans City Park disturbed
 by the lagoon workers.
ruining their chances to bloom normally. Many labels
were also lost so we were looking at some beautiful
NOIDs. We were able to identify ‘Acadian Sky’ (Joe
Musacchi 2017, LA) the eventual President’s Cup
winner, and its first runner-up ‘When Pigs Fly’ (Pat
O’Connor 2013, LA). I was very impressed by an older
variety ‘Plum Good’ (Ira Nelson 1951, LA). The name
tells you the color and this variety performed well in all
 gardens where planted.
