my seedlings and not being very excited, I got to see
several good-looking guests. Schreiner’s ‘Table For
Two’ (2016, TB), winner as the favorite In-Region iris,
was putting on a great show in tan over black-red
with a white blaze around yellow beards. Also looking
good was Paul Black’s 2015 TB luminata, ‘Affair To
 Remember’.
Our next tour stop was Mid-America Garden’s farm.
It is located about a mile from the home garden. The
farm is where all the new introductions and commercial
stock is now grown. We only had three hours at the
farm and that included judges’ training and lunch. It
was a good thing that I was staying a couple of extra
days in Salem because there were way too many
irises to see in such a short visit. I did get photos of a
good variegated foliage-and-stalk TB of Paul Black’s,
‘Variegated Wonder’ (2014). I found several rows of
Barry Blyth introductions growing on the farm that
were outstanding. My favorite was ‘Raise Your Glass’
(2016/2017, TB), a buff tan over lavender. And the TB
iris that always grabs my attention is ‘Seasons In The
Sun’ (2014) of Thomas Johnson. It was showing off here
and at the farm too. It has yellow standards and style
arms; falls of brown with a yellow band; and brown
 beards tipped mustard yellow.
The last stop on tour day was Schreiner’s Garden.
With our visit being Mother’s Day weekend, the garden
was packed with people. There were vendor tents set
up for wine tasting, liquor tasting, and artists. At the
liquor tent they had an iris liquor. Not to my liking, but
I did like the Oregon wines. The viewing gardens at
Schreiner’s were spectacular. Iris and companion plants
as far as you could see. ‘Table For Two’ (2016) looked
good in its home garden as did Barry Blyth’s ‘Moroccan
Magic’ (2004/2005). It displayed with peach coloration
standards and falls of burgundy-black with a wire edge
of the standard color. I would have liked to walk out
to the seedling beds, but I’m pretty sure I would have
missed the bus. After a couple of hours of viewing it
was time to board the bus for the hotel. It was a long
day, but the time flew by.
The Convention came to an end Saturday evening
with a banquet and a very good presentation by
hybridizer Barry Blyth of Australia. Thanks to the OTIS
for hosting this Region 13 tour.
