the Garden Wall” garden in Hartford, CT. These two
large gardens contained a wide variety of named
irises and the pick of new seedlings judged by the
expert owners to be worthy of consideration for
introduction. A minority of the ratings were made
in the home gardens of the judges. Concern was
expressed that year that some of the AIS HM and
AM winners since our founding in 1920 had already
disappeared.
It was of interest to me to observe the judges’
rating results for the next five Dykes Medal winners
in two selected years of 1933 and 1936:
