 the classes: A, 90 or more; B, 85-90; C, 80-85; and,  
 D, 75-80. Any average score less was an F indicating  
 “flunk.” The ratings were made only on irises eligible  
 for current AIS awards such as HM and AM. AMs  
 required an average score of 88.

 was limited to introductions of the last four years,  
 previous ratings having been unlimited. Forty-seven  
 judges voted in the 1932 rating system. 1933 saw  
 this increase to 64 judges. The great majority of  
 the ratings were made in Mrs. Pattison’s “Quality  
 Gardens” in Freeport, IL (the main garden at the AIS  
 Winter 2019 AIS Bulletin 25
