AIS^NEEDS YOU!
Don’t miss the chance
to be part of the
AIS 2020 Centennial publication!
Of our 158 affiliate clubs, fourteen have responded
with information on their founding and important
events about their members and club history.
We need more. Our plan is to publish four 72-page
Supplement issues in conjunction with the AIS Bulletin
IRISES in 2020 when we celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the American Iris Society in New York City (Newark
AIS convention).
Know a funny story? In our long (or short) iris experience
we all know something humorous that has
happened to us or in our presence. Please tickle our
funnybone.
Have a brief personal memory? Please share that story
with us.
Suggest an article previously published in the Bulletin
or in Roots, Tall Talk, The Medianite, The Siberian Iris,
or any of our other Section or Regional publications.
Many articles transcend our combined histories and
bear repeating for posterity. Many gems are out there
that should be shared with the larger American Iris
Society audience. Important stories printed in Region 2
or 4 in the east may have never been seen in Region 13
or 14 in the west and vice versa. This may be true in all
Regions. So please reach out and suggest a story you
feel was especially informative and important. Please
copy it and forward it on.
Photos: please locate and forward high resolution
photos of any historic importance. This includes people
and iris images. We have already devoted many
hours searching for good photos of certain iris personages
and important varieties and species. Sources
include personal slides, photo scrapbooks, digital
images, botanical garden archives and alma mater university
archives. Someone out there may have exactly
what we need. So don’t hesitate to inquire or forward
images to our Google Drive folder that Neil Houghton
created for centennial images. The link is below.

IF YOU ADD AN IMAGE please shoot an email to
images@irises.org If the above doesn’t work for you
send an email to Neil with the image as an attachment.
All 100 years of the AIS experience will be covered,
but because the first 75 years have been covered to
some extent in the 50th and 75th anniversary issues
we plan an emphasis on 1996 to the present. However,
there will be major stories covered throughout our
history and vignettes of items not previously covered.
Our current plan is to have material researched and
written a year in advance (this year 2019!) so it can be
thoroughly vetted before publishing. Please note that
the AIS 2020 Centennial Editorial Board reserves the
right to include/exclude articles for publication.
After two previous editors withdrew, the, Centennial
Editorial Board asked Jim Morris to take over as the
Managing Editor and he agreed to do so. You may send
your ideas, articles and other material contributions to
him at:
