 THE SIGN—IT'S MAGIC!
The Magic Valley Iris Society is a small club in south
central Idaho. Founded in 1950, it was spawned from local
iris growers that desired to feature their beloved irises
in a dedicated yearly show. Prior to that, the Twin Falls
Gardening Club had a section in their flower show for
irises but that wasn’t enough for local iris lovers, so the
club was formed in September of that year.
Magic Valley Iris Society sign detail
We have been questioned many times about our
club logo on Facebook. The sign was created in 1993 by a
combined effort of two long-time former members of the
club. The stained glass portion of the sign was made by
Bonnie Henson and the framework and stand were made
by Albert Toberer, both cherished and loved members of
the club. Their donation of the sign and their support of
the club will not be forgotten.

 2018 ARIL TREK
The Mesilla Valley Iris Society (MVIS) and Aril
Society International (ASI) will host an Aril Trek in Las
Cruces, New Mexico, April 6–7, 2018. We will convene
on the evening of Friday, April 6 at the historic Hotel
Encanto de Las Cruces, which is offering us luxury hotel
accommodations at economy hotel rates for the Aril
Trek. After the evening registration, there will be a social
hour and we will play Aril Bingo. We shall retire early in
preparation for a full day of garden tours and an evening
banquet on Saturday, April 7. Noted Aril hybridizer Pete
McGrath has agreed to be our Keynote Speaker.
MVIS has scheduled Aril Trek 2018 to coincide
with the expected peak bloom of Arilbred irises in our
area. The garden tour will visit four member gardens,
each with plantings of 100–200 Aril and Arilbred iris.
Several Arilbred hybridizers have contributed recent
introductions for these gardens. A light breakfast
and lunch will be served in the gardens. The tour will
conclude with an Arilbred judges’ training in the last
 garden.
Sunday, April 8, will be a travel day, conveniently
scheduled for continuing to the AIS/SLI 2018 Convention
April 9–14 in New Orleans, LA.
We look forward to sharing the joy of our gardens
with friends from the American Iris Society. For
information and Aril Trek registration contact Dell
Perry, 800 Purcell Dr, Plano, TX 75025 (972-816-3418 or
