2020 American Iris Society 100th REQUEST FOR GUEST BEARDED IRISES
The American Iris Society will host the AIS 100th
Anniversary National Convention, May 18–23, 2020.
Convention attendees will tour three New York/New
Jersey–area gardens: Presby Memorial Iris Garden, New
York Botanical Garden, and Wave Hill. All of these are
public gardens and will have limited space for Guest
Irises. Please observe the following guidelines when
sending guest irises, as only officially submitted guest
irises will appear in the Convention Booklet.
Hybridizers of bearded varieties are invited to send
rhizomes of recent introductions and seedlings under
consideration for introduction. Up to two rhizomes of up
to 5 varieties per hybridizer will be accepted from July 1
 through 15, 2018.
Planting will be done in mid-July, so plants will be planted
promptly after receipt. Please send the best of the best!

The package should be clearly marked “AIS GUEST IRIS.” The name of the variety or seedling
(and/or seedling #) should be clearly marked on each rhizome. On a separate packing list, please include:
 1. Hybridizer’s name, address, phone number, AND EMAIL
 2.	Name or seedling number of the variety
 3. Type of Iris (Tall Bearded, Miniature Tall Bearded etc.)
 4.	Height, color, and distinguishing characteristics (space age? rebloomer?)
 5. Year of Introduction (if applicable)
Contributors who do not include an email address will receive a confirmation of receipt by regular mail.
If a guest seedling is later named, it is the responsibility of the hybridizer to notify the Guest Iris Chair of the
change. Please send updates to George Hildenbrandt at grh3@psu.edu.
Each garden will be responsible for digging and
disposing of its guest iris. No rhizomes will be offered for
sale on the Internet or by any other means that competes
with sales by the contributor. The public gardens will
not have the volunteer staff available to label and ship
iris back to hybridizers. All unnamed seedlings will be
 destroyed.
The 2020 Convention Committee and the owners
of the host gardens will strictly adhere to the Code of
Ethics as printed in the AIS Convention Handbook. The
Convention Committee and host gardens will not be
responsible for losses beyond their control.
If you have questions about the above criteria, please
