BY JIM MORRIS, OBITUARIES EDITOR, MISSOURI Remembering Friends
I’m convinced old gardeners never really
die but live on in the floral legacy they leave
behind. Most of us have inspired others to
take our place and to nurture and cherish
our plant companions.
—Nevin Bebee, Colorado Native Plant Society
The Magic Sign Redux
The winter 2018 issue of IRISES contained a bulletin
board announcement on page 9 about the stained glass
logo sign of the Magic Valley Iris Society in central Idaho.
Their club expressed their appreciation for the publicity,
and long-time member Mildred Toberer, 102, was able to
see the announcement of her past husband’s handiwork
just before she passed on February 22, 2018.
We also note the passing of Dr. Bernard Hugh “Bud”
McSparrin, PhD, 79, on December 28, 2017. He was a
professor at LSU, Master AIS Judge, and past president
of the Society for Louisiana Irises 1968–1969. More details
of his life and SLI involvement are printed in the spring
2018 Fleur de Lis, the Journal of the Society for Louisiana
Irises.
