Preserving irises, iris records and artifacts for future needs

Your membership brings a new opportunity for us all to promote and preserve our great iris history.

The Society was created to help preserve our iris heritage by locating at-risk irises and bringing them together with irisarians who want to grow and perpetuate them. Of equal importance is the establishment of an extensive collection of reference material relating to early iris history. HIPS is the common thread that binds together irisarians everywhere.

Welcome to the Historic Iris Preservation Society (HIPS). Your membership brings a new opportunity for us all to promote and preserve our great iris history. You will be sent the next issue of ROOTS with information on how to order past issues. ROOTS offers a wonderful portrait of the world of historic irises. It includes:
* ID tips
* a list of display gardens
* plant source listings
* snippets from period catalogs
* iris literature available for purchase
* the listings of our annual sale (usually in the Spring issue)

Your ROOTS address label indicates when your membership expires, but you will receive a reminder notice in the mail as well. Our bylaws allow 60 days after receiving this notice to remain on the membership list.

Also, you will receive a copy of the database form. Please fill it out and send it to our database chairman (address on form) as soon as you get a moment. It helps us keep track of which irises have survived throughout the years.

And if you have the opportunity, take a look at our new website:

http://www.historiciris.org

It has a wonderful collection of color photos, useful charts, and a "mystery iris" section where we post photos of some of our favorite unknown iris as well as a list of officers and directors of HIPS. There are many other sections all designed with historic iris in mind.
