In 2007, America will
commemorate 100 years of Oklahoma's contributions to our country. All of
Oklahoma will, too. From town to town and border to border, the
celebration of a lifetime is already well underway.
Oklahoma celebrates its 100th anniversary of statehood on November 16,
2007, and all across the 46th state, communities and organizations are
getting ready. Many are creating monuments, fountains, parks or cultural
facilities that reflect local or state history, while others are
restoring historical sites and structures. Most are planning special
commemorations or are enhancing traditional festivals and annual events
throughout 2007. Go to the special Oklahoma Centennial website for

Going to the AIS Convention? Sign up for the 2007 Geek Dinner!
This is an ongoing event that has been held
since the first Geek Dinner at the last Convention in Oklahoma. You

for dinner. Not only will there be dinner and good conversation among
iris friends but door prizes and an auction will be part of the
entertainment.

After having spent your day getting off the tour bus and rushing around
the garden trying not to miss anything...then back on the bus to the
next garden to repeat the same thing again...what better way to end your
day than a relaxed evening with friends at the Geek Dinner reviewing all
those iris that are now on your "wish list."
John Jones, AIS Electronic Services Chair, will do the "welcome thing"
but the fun really starts after dinner when "Auctioneer" George Sutton
goes to work in his inimitable style. The auction is always accompanied
by fun and laughter. There will be door prizes and, if the past history
holds true, gift certificates from hybridizers and other iris items of
interest.
The entire proceeds from the auctions go directly into the AIS
Electronic Service fund. Last year the auction earned over $4400. This
fund sponsors such things as the digital projector for slide shows and
the online iris databases.
Remember, you do NOT need to be a "geek" to attend. In other words, if
you enjoy iris and iris enthusiasts, you are invited. Although not an
official part of the convention package, the banquet is open to anyone
for the cost of the dinner.
Due to the increasing popularity of the Geek Dinner it is highly
recommended that you get your reservation in early as space is limited.
People have been turned away in the past so don’t miss this fun event!
Information and registration for the Geek Dinner are available by
contacting:
Joanne Prass-Jones, 35572 Linda Drive, Fremon , CA
94536-1523
e-mail:
joanne@usjoneses.com
If you have items to donate to the
auction, please let Joanne know as soon as possible.

Saving on expenses
for the 2007 conventions
Are you trying to figure out your finances so you can attend the AIS
Convention? It’s your dream. You have told your family no presents this
year or next, just money toward the trip to the AIS iris convention in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and then the Median iris convention in Lincoln,
Nebraska.
Here’s a way to cut expenses: Sign up for a roommate. You can save money
by sharing your hotel room, and have more money for the convention. The
deal is: You make the match. I will provide a list of names, and you
contact the people on the list, make your own deal.
Last year I made the reservation for the room in my name so did my
roommate, so both our names were on the reservation for the same room.
You can do what works for you.
This year we have added a new twist, we are offering to hook up people
who are driving with people who need a ride from Oklahoma City to
Lincoln.
